Day manages to keep the novel cohesive with a plot twist that moves the story to another level of excellence. Magpie feels like a tale of two halves, which in this case isn’t a bad thing, the first half feels taut with suspense and wonder, while the second half is an exploration on motherhood, love and forgiveness.
